Hampton Inn Ringgold-Ft. Oglethorpe

We arrived worn out after four long days of travel. I got into the shower right away, but there was no hot water. I let it run for 15 minutes and it only reached about room temperature. My husband was already asleep, and I didn’t call downstairs since we weren’t going to switch rooms. A few minutes later, the refrigerator woke us with awful noises, so we got up and unplugged it. The bed pillows were flat and below what we’re used to at a Hilton-owned hotel. I slept terribly and woke with neck pain. In the morning, a patched hole in the ceiling had fallen through onto the floor. When I opened the window to look at the mess, I found a pile of dead bugs. I’m scared we may have brought some into our luggage or vehicle. The common areas and halls also looked like they hadn’t been swept or vacuumed in days. I was shocked at the condition of a Hilton Brand hotel. When we left yesterday morning, I stopped at the desk to report the unacceptable room conditions. They said we’d get a call once the manager arrived, within an hour. It’s now been 24 hours and nobody has contacted us.

The complimentary breakfast was a letdown. The oatmeal was mushy and overcooked, and the toast bread was stale. None of it seemed fresh or appetizing. The room also looked dirty and poorly kept. The bed seemed to have been made, but the linens didn’t look fresh or replaced, and the room gave the impression of a quick turnover instead of proper cleaning. It left me concerned about the housekeeping and sanitation. Cleanliness and food quality are basic expectations at a Hilton-branded hotel, and this stay fell well short.

It’s a convenient spot just off the interstate, and check-in was easy. The room was large, but broken floor tiles and other problems made me question how well the place is kept and cleaned. The faucet didn’t work right and the sink wouldn’t drain. Also, if you book through Hotels.com or Hotwire, be aware that you’ll be put in their designated accessible rooms.

There were bugs everywhere when we got up early. They looked like ladybugs or maybe Japanese beetles, though I’m not sure, and I took pictures. After I asked for housekeeping to clean the room, it seemed like there were even more. The bed was remade with a pillowcase that had blood on it. We’d taken this spontaneous trip to get away and have an adventure, so I was really excited. The hotel ended up being the worst part and a huge waste of money. We were so tired when we arrived close to 1 a.m. that we went right to bed without turning on many lights. The mattress was uncomfortable and noisy, with clear indentations from years of use. Check-in took a bit, but given the late hour I wasn’t upset about that.
