The Castle at Skylands Manor

Billy the Innkeeper knew the property and the area well, and his suggestions were helpful. He was there when we needed anything, but also gave us room to relax and enjoy the manor. Everything was handled smoothly, with thoughtful touches that made the stay feel easy. From the time we arrived for our Valentine’s Day overnight, he was warm, welcoming, and attentive. His kindness and professionalism made the weekend feel special. We left refreshed and well cared for, already talking about returning.

We stayed in the Gatsby Room, which was cozy and had a great view. The people were friendly, and the scenery around the manor and botanical gardens was stunning. I proposed to My fiance at sunset on our first night there. I’d recommend it for a night, a weekend, or an event. It was fairly affordable, too.

The gardens are lovely for a date or a walk, and you can also get married outdoors and hold the reception in the castle!

Liz, the Inn keeper, made us feel like family and treated us like royalty. She took care of needs we hadn’t even thought of, cooked a chef quality breakfast, and made my mother feel special despite her gluten free needs. We could reach Liz easily anywhere on the grounds because she gave us her cell phone number. The rooms were fresh smelling and meticulously clean despite the manor’s age and size. The beds and pillows were delightfully comfortable and modern, and the giant walk in closets made it easy to keep the rooms uncluttered. Eating breakfast among walls from the 15th century was mind blowing. Being in the middle of the botanical garden gave us hours of pleasure, and we enjoyed private strolls each evening and morning before it opened. We even had fun exploring the manor and doing a scavenger hunt for the hidden mini window paintings. It felt like traveling to Europe, and the manor would make a perfect event backdrop. This hidden gem is apparently a secret even to nearby botanical garden visitors, some of whom didn’t know they could stay here. We did wish there had been more information about the house’s history and something to purchase as a memento. Skyland Manor and Liz far exceeded our expectations. Driving away felt like leaving our summer home, and we’re already planning another trip.
