Quality Inn Rio Rancho - Albuquerque North Valley

This place was a last resort for us. We’d paid to stay at Extended Stay America, but they said they had no room because they’d oversold by five. Now there are two places I wouldn’t recommend even to someone I dislike. We paid $170 a night for a hard bed, an alarm chirping every 30 seconds all night, and a toilet valve that leaked every two minutes. The open hallway above the front desk made the fire alarm sound carry, and the toilet kept running all night. It felt like the property couldn’t be bothered to maintain things. Staff clearly hear that the alarm needs service, but don’t seem to care that it bothers guests or may be unsafe. Absolute garbage.

The rooms are small and outdated, the bathtub and sink both fill up, and the internet stops working. When I asked if they could reset it, they rudely said there was nothing they could do. The staff were judgmental and rude in general. We were out from about 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day, and even with our kids in bed by 8, we got complaints about their noise. The floors between levels are so thin that walking around can disturb the downstairs guests, and then you get blamed. There’s no elevator, so I’d suggest asking for a first floor room if you have to stay here. Traffic around the hotel is dangerous, too. The front desk lady Yash drove a sporty red car carelessly and nearly hit my 8 year old daughter while taking a sharp corner in the parking lot at about 20, where she couldn’t see people walking to their cars. The smell of their culture food is very strong, and the whole hotel smells like it. We stayed about 7-8 nights. Nightly rates are $130-$160, but a third party discount site like Priceline can be as low as about $70 a night. Paying full price isn’t worth the size or quality. I’d avoid this place if possible. If you have no other choice, booking through a third party is a must.

The breakfast had a nice range of items, and the stay was quiet and comfortable. It’s an older property with modern updates, kept clean and well maintained, and the service was fantastic and friendly. Five stars.

I won’t stay here again. We’d reserved a room with two beds on the bottom floor because there’s no elevator, but we were given a king bed upstairs. I asked to switch and was told they couldn’t because I’d booked through Priceline, though I later found out the reservation company had sent the correct request. I also thought the American Disabilies Act says that if a facility can’t make changes like adding an elevator, it has to accommodate the person, for example by giving us a room on the bottom floor. I believe this is a violation of Federal law.
