Chipman Inn

Breakfast was a lovely part of my stay, and the Chipman has plenty of charm and history. I was there for 11 or 12 nights during the 2025 Bread Loaf Writer's Conference, using the Inn as my home base. I chose to stay off campus for extra privacy, and Bread Loaf Campus is super close, about a five-minute drive at most. Elizabeth, Chris, and family were wonderful hosts. My bed was comfortable, the lodging was clean, and it was quiet enough to sleep and catch up on the day's readings. Thanks again for making my time in Vermont wonderful.

The shared space was a nice place to meet other guests over breakfast and coffee each morning. I visited in early August, when the weather and scenery around the inn were spectacular. Elizabeth and her family made me feel welcome in their beautiful, rustic inn. My room was clean, just the right size, and had its own bathroom. Middlebury, Bristol, and Lake Dunmore were all easy trips from there. It was my first stay at the Chipman Inn, but I plan to return. Book early if you want to stay during the busy seasons!

We found this gem when a delay on our bike trip left us looking for a place to stay at the last minute. Elizabeth let us camp out back and did everything she could to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The spot is wonderfully quiet, and the place has been renovated beautifully. We didn't stay in the rooms, though they looked lovely and comfortable. A beautiful little place with a lovely owner. Definitely recommend!

The innkeepers were really interesting, and we enjoyed sitting and chatting with them. We had a delightful stay at the Chipman Inn, and I hope we can make it back before too long.
