Our one-night stay was extremely affordable, and we would stay at the Top Hat again. We were checked in by a very pleasant young woman at the front desk. Room 9 was very clean with fresh paint, and the bathroom was modern and in very good shape. They brought us anything we requested, and coffee and pastries were available in the morning before we left.

The hosts and attendants were easily the best part of the stay, and they even cooked us steak and eggs for breakfast. The trains are loud, the TVs don't work, and the heat runs too hot, though that can be nice for getting girls' shirts off. The mice were about the size of a small Rottweiler, and the flies were so big they needed a runway to land. No bed bugs or cockroaches, at least. Nicest place in ritzville. I'd stay again if there were no other places on earth.

For laborers sharing the two queen beds, this might be a decent stop. It was warm, and the shower was okay, until the curtain rod fell because the duct tape had lost its grip. A train comes through now and then, so light sleepers should bring earplugs. The carpet didn't look trustworthy, and the mattress was hard, so house slippers and a pillow topper could help. The sheets had facial hairs and grime stuck to them. Maybe they'd change them if you ask, but it was late and I fell asleep thinking about it. In the end, paying the extra 15 bucks to stay somewhere else would've been better.

The beds could probably use an upgrade soon, though that's just my observation and not the young woman's fault. She told my husband she'd only been running the place a short time, and she seems to be doing a great job. The motel was clean, the staff were friendly, and they were understanding when I accidentally broke the bathroom faucet handle. They didn't charge us and said they had spares. They were also good with our cat, who was traveling with us to our new home.

We'd just driven nine hours toward our vacation and needed a break. The other motel we'd booked online looked nice, but we were fooled and couldn't wait to cancel and leave. Then we spotted the Top Hat and decided to check it out. I've never written a review before because most places feel pretty generic, but this one really stood out. The prices were amazing, and the rooms and atmosphere were quaint and CLEAN. They brought us cold glasses and ice for our drinks, plus a carafe of coffee for the morning. We bought a surprise birthday gift for a friend at the gift shop, and Jackie bubble wrapped it, boxed it up, then slipped it into our room while we were at dinner. She even put it in a Happy Birthday bag with tissue! We'll stay here again and again. It's now part of our tradition when we travel from Southern Oregon to our Idahome. The owners take pride in their business, and you can feel it.
