Hampton Inn Rochester Irondequoit

The front desk and the woman working breakfast were both friendly and helpful. The room was large and looked nice, but cold air came through because the A/C and heater weren't sealed. I visited over Thanksgiving and felt a very cold draft. The shampoo, body soap, and lotion were all empty. Those are simple things to fix. If they're improved before my next family visit, I'd change my 1 star.

There was lots of parking, and the rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel was near several places I needed to go, and the continental breakfast was good. Customer service was great as well. We had some trouble with our room key, but it got fixed. There was also a strange smell in the room, kind of like sewage. We bought a spray and that helped. I'd definitely stay again.

For a quick overnight near Rochester General, this can work: it's clean and the staff are very friendly. But if you're staying several days and need things to keep working, I'd choose somewhere else. Around the property, things that should feel sturdy were loose or close to falling off. The bathroom safety bars seemed like they might come right off with serious pressure, and the tub faucet fixtures moved when I turned the water on and off. Even the elevator had loose or falling bumper pieces meant to protect its walls. During our visit the water boiler failed, leaving the whole hotel without hot shower water for at least two days. That wasn't why I gave it 3 stars, though.

The fire alarm sounded for about an hour, but when we left the building nobody said if it was a test. Some people went back inside while others stayed out or left, so we waited outdoors until it stopped. There were no emergency vehicles and no announcement. The elevator was very slow to the 4th floor, so I often used the stairs. It's handy to the highway, and I walked to Target and back without trouble, but traffic and the car wash next door made it noisy. The room felt old and outdated, with furniture that dated the space, though the furniture itself was fine. They'd repainted, but gray paint was left all over the floors, outlets, furniture, handles, and doors. The two-queen rooms could use another side table, in my opinion. I was glad this room had a tub, though I wish there'd been a hot tub. The room hadn't been fully cleaned after the previous guest: there was stuff in the trash, dead spiders on the ceiling, and some mold in the shower.
