Royal Park Hotel

I had a big event to plan with only two weeks to go, and working with Meredith, Michelle, Chef Eric, and the event team made it all go smoothly. The food presentation, clean space, and arrangements for all the guests were handled so well, especially given the short notice. I've visited the Royal Park Hotel for years, and the team keeps raising the guest experience with real attention to detail. It's always wonderful working with them. I was exhausted after driving all night and needed a room for a few hours. I've stayed at the Royal park hotel many times for business, and the hotel was clean. The woman working the front desk Friday morning, 2/13/26, was polite and respectful. But 15 minutes before arriving, I'd called to check the price because I could have stayed somewhere else. I was quoted $305 a night. At check-in, an early arrival fee of $125 brought it to $442. I didn't argue, just paid because I was tired. A few hours later I woke to a $662 charge. The desk employee was polite and said her manager would come in at 11 and call me. They called three hours later to say the charges were right and nothing could be done, and the manager wouldn't speak with me. They said I was also charged for a two-queen room, which I never asked for. They offered to waive the early check-in fee, but that didn't fix the problem. I feel taken advantage of, and this has made me sick. I'm not usually someone who bashes a company or even sends food back. I stayed from 3 a.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday, and still had the room booked through Saturday morning even though I didn't need it. They could have cleaned it and given it to someone Friday night. Next time I won't pay extra for “comfort and hospitality” at Royal park. I'll go down the street for much less.

It was easy to walk downtown, and that was the best part of our stay. I'd wanted to try this hotel for years, but for the price the experience wasn't what I expected. I felt like I was inconveniencing employees whenever I asked for anything. The website said complimentary lobby tea and coffee were available from 6 to 11 a.m.; the desk clerk said the rooms had them. They did, but there was no tea or stir sticks, and she told me I could buy them at Park 600. The fire pit listed on the website wasn't there either. We went to Park 600 for a drink and waited at a table, then went to the bar to ask for a menu and order. The woman there was rude and told us to sit down and wait for someone to help. I don't think I'd come back at this price.

We spent four nights here for our son's wedding, with family coming from out of town, and the setting added a lot to the occasion. We enjoyed walks around downtown Rochester and the property along the Paint Creek River. The hotel has a lovely European boutique feel, and Rochester Hills is a beautiful small town. The rooms are nice, the service from the front desk, housekeeping, and Park 600 was great, and they offer good room promotions. It feels a cut above while still having a small-town character. I highly recommend it.
