Red Roof Inn Rockford East – Casino District

I only needed one night to rest before continuing to my next destination, after a really bad experience at another hotel forced me to leave late. I checked into Red Roof very late, and the room was great. The staff were friendly too. I’d stay there again if I’m in the area.

I booked at short notice because of my grandson’s pending both. When I arrived, two police cars were there over an argument. An officer reminded the clerk that police shouldn’t be called for civil issues, then the clerk said the man involved had threatened to burn down a building. That scared me, and I wanted to cancel right away, but I couldn’t without a penalty or losing my money. The clerk also said they’d put a $50 charge on my card for the safe, which would be refunded in 3-5 business days if I didn’t use it and told them at checkout. I’d never heard of that policy, but agreed since this was a lower grade of lodging than I’m used to. There were two big dead bugs in a corner, and the shower pressure was weak. Never again.

They charged me $7 for a wall safe I never used, even after I told the clerk I hadn’t used it. There was no sign or anything explaining where the vending machines were. I get that it’s a cheap room, but this is ridiculous. I’d rather spend the extra $10 for convenience, and I won’t be back. We shouldn’t have to report that we didn’t use something in a room we paid for. What’s next, charging me for sitting on the couch? I even turned the lights on. Bad service deserves a bad review.

We drove six hours from another state for my aunt’s celebration of life. Right after booking, I called to say we’d arrive late, and they said that was fine. But when we got there, they told us the reservation had been cancelled as a “no call no show.” No call or email had come to let us know. The employee didn’t apologize or seem bothered that they’d messed up. This place is trash, and they don’t care about customers. Thank goodness my cousin let us stay before we had to make the six-hour drive back home.
