Ledges by the Bay

It's a nice place on the bay, but we were very disappointed that there was no breakfast when we visited the week before Memorial Day. They say breakfast is free, and that's why we booked here.

The cottage was musty, with stained ceiling tiles and dirty drinking glasses in the cupboard. There was only a fan in our bedroom, no air conditioning, though it was better than nothing. The sliding door wouldn't lock, which left us feeling unsafe. Goose droppings covered the lawn and walkway. It was a long, sleepless night, and the place could have been something special, but it wasn't. We wouldn't stay again. It wasn't worth what we paid.

I booked The Ledges for one night with my daughter on our way back from Boston. Within 24 hours, I let them know we'd arrive late and asked if that would be a problem. They said no staff would be there and asked me to email a copy of my driver's license and credit card. I wasn't comfortable sending sensitive information by email, so I canceled. They refused to refund the full cost of the stay and kept $50. Another inn had no problem accommodating our late arrival. I wouldn't recommend The Ledges if they can't accommodate guests without exposing them to possible identity theft.

Nick, the owner, was the friendliest and I met him at the front desk. The staff were lovely and accommodating, and so many rooms have beautiful views. The price was reasonable, and tomorrow's breakfast looks great. I love that they use large shampoo bottles to help save the planet. Thanks for reminding me why we love staying at individually owned places. ❤️ Maine!
