The Country Inn at Camden Rockport

The pool and jacuzzi were nice, and the bed was old-fashioned but fairly comfortable. The heating worked well. The rest of my two-night stay was deeply disappointing. I felt the staff didn't care about helping guests who'd paid a lot, and there was very little in return. Breakfast was mediocre, served in cardboard bowls with plastic cutlery. The rooms had dated decor and no coffee makers. Mine had a double bed and a tiny bathroom, with the sink and mirror out in the seating area. Reception wasn't staffed around the clock. After 9 pm, a sign said to call a number only in an emergency, leaving you on your own otherwise. There was nowhere to get a hot or cold drink: everything was locked up, with no vending machine, just an ice machine near my room that made strange noises all night. I was able to enter the building at 10:20 pm without swiping my room card. When I asked the front desk to store our luggage for a few hours before our 3:30 pm bus, they refused, saying there was no room, even though the reception area was massive. The staff seemed miserable and horrible. It felt like the place was only out for money.

We're just leaving this adorable inn on our way to Acadia, and I'm glad I trusted the previous reviews. I'm a hotel snob, and this place really is a gem. It also sits beside a mini golf place for families. The breakfast setup was the cleanest I've ever seen.

The property has a lot going for it: a pool, gym, fire pit, breakfast area, and gift shop, all wonderful. Still, I wouldn't rate it as highly as many others. Our regular room was dark and poorly ventilated, with too few hooks or hangers to put things away. For two parents and two teenagers, it wasn't ideal. Next time I'd choose a cottage for the extra space. Breakfast was basic, nothing special, and I'd like to see fewer disposable dishes. A few additions could make the place even better: hammocks in the back yard, some yard games, bikes or a shuttle into town, and more light in the room.

The complimentary breakfast was a lovely surprise, with homemade waffles every day, plus croissants, sausage and eggs, and breakfast sandwiches that weren't pre-packaged. Our room was spacious and immaculate, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They made the stay truly enjoyable.
