Amy and Steve Lane own and run these charming, cozy, clean cabins, and they’re very accommodating. There’s plenty of dock space and two boat ramps for launching and pulling out, plus arrangements for seaplane and floatplane arrivals. The camp has a great feel and makes a handy base for hiking, ATV rides, moose watching, fishing, birding, and sitting by a campfire. There’s also snowmobiling, grouse and deer hunting, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing nearby, along with a downhill ski area and golf at nearby Mount Kineo.

The cabin was lovely and very reasonably priced, right on the Moose River in Rockwood. We booked that afternoon for the same night, when few local rooms were still available and they cost more. A few hours later, she offered us a larger cabin at no extra charge, and we gladly took it. I think she said ours, Grizzly King, was their newest cabin. I’d love to come back for ice fishing.

We’ve been coming here for many years and think it’s the best place to stay. The hosts are so accommodating. We also rent a pontoon just up the river from Captain Roger, who’s great to work with. Highly recommend!

There’s little privacy here, with people around and neighboring cabins only about an arm’s length away. The cabin sleeps four, but really only two adults: the queen bed is tucked into a sort of large closet, and the bunks suit children only. For its low price compared with other local lodging, the cabin was fine. There’s no air conditioning, which isn’t unusual in Maine, though climate change might make it worth reconsidering. A ceiling fan kept things bearable. The owners were civil, which seems to count as friendly or welcoming in this part of the state.

We’ve been coming for ten years, my mom, my kids, and me, and we love it. The location is just right, and there are great things for kids to use, including paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, tunes, and life jackets. The owners are so friendly, even entertaining my daughter with their chickens. Housekeeping is excellent, and the woman who cleans is fantastic. Ten out of ten, highly recommend.
