Surestay Plus Hotel By Best Western Albany Airport

I spent two nights here for business and have stayed in worse places, but this one still disappointed me. The room was extremely hot, like a sauna, and had an unpleasant smell I can't quite identify. Old wrappers, false nails, and other leftovers from previous guests were on the floor. There was garbage piled along the sidewalks outside, too. The bathroom was awkward to use. The shower curtain wouldn't stay closed, so the bathroom got soaked while I showered. There's barely room to squeeze past the toilet and shut the door to reach the shower, which wouldn't work well for a larger person. At night I heard loud banging in the halls and couldn't get a solid night's sleep. I didn't try the other amenities because I spent as little time at the hotel as possible.

I had to change rooms because the first one smelled strongly of mold and felt musty. In the second room, we found visible black mold on the curtains. This is a serious health hazard. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

My niece rented the hall for her baby shower. I'd recommend it for small gatherings.

I stayed here twice, two weeks apart, and wouldn't come back. On the first visit, the toilet seat was barely attached, the tub drain was clogged with hair and its stopper came right out, and the dirty tub turned light brown when water hit it, so I had to clean it. The bathroom doorknob caught in the wall, and one coat rack support had pulled away. Most outside doors were propped open. People wearing shirts that said "security" were there, but didn't interact with anyone entering. I used to work for a Best Western and know the standards. This hotel isn't Best Western quality. On the later visit, the smells were still there and the doors were still propped open. During our three night stay, the air conditioner leaked all over the rug in our first room. I reported it and asked for a screwdriver to tighten the toilet seat, which was loose again just like on the first visit. Six hours later, nothing had been fixed, so we moved rooms. The replacement reeked of cigarette smoke. At least its bathroom door wasn't hung upside down, so the hook on the back worked. They said it was one of the newly updated rooms, but water had leaked from the defrosting refrigerator and left a raised spot in the rug that could trip you. The tub didn't drain, so water rose around my feet during a shower. The bathroom fan cover hung from the ceiling by one edge, and the shower humidity had already warped the cardboard like drop ceiling. White paint specks on the new floor made it look like they'd rushed the update. Best Western used to care about quality, and I might never stay at one of their hotels again. This place is a two star hotel at best.
