Hampton Inn & Suites Toledo-Perrysburg

I’ve stayed at Hampton Inns all over, and this was my least favorite. We visit Perrysburg often, but this was our first time at this one, and it badly needs an update. The in-room amenities were old, some buttons for calling the desk were missing, the nightstand charging port had broken off, and the refrigerator didn’t freeze anything. It was basically a tray of water. Breakfast was okay, but the waffle iron could use an update compared with other Hampton Inns. The app made check-in and checkout easy, but I found a “parking recapture fee” on the bill that wasn’t on my reservation. We also saw a large roach on its back, half dead, on the bathroom floor. Maybe they do treat for pests. The elevator regularly smelled of marijuana, which didn’t feel comfortable with little kids along. They could do better.

I called to ask if there were any rooms, and Alexis at the desk was so pleasant during our 30-second conversation that I chose this hotel over the others nearby. Hope other guests get to talk with her, even briefly.

The HVAC units were so loud we couldn’t run the heater and sleep. They offered to move us, but after two days on the road and finally getting unpacked and showered, I wasn’t about to pack up and switch rooms. I’ve since seen that others have complained about the noise too, so I should’ve read the reviews more carefully. If you stay here, turn the HVAC on before settling in, and bring all the charging supplies you need. There are no USB ports, so you’ll need a power brick to charge devices. The luggage carts are like airport carts and really only work for luggage. Traveling with kids, elderly people, or disabled people means we had more to carry, and it took three trips to bring our necessities by hand. The worst part was that we were traveling with a legitimately trained service dog, but staff wanted us to register it as a pet, which is illegal. We had notified them ahead of time that we’d have a service animal. This was night two of a three-day drive from Florida to Michigan, after a great stay at a Hampton Inn in Knoxville the night before. Not all Hampton Inns are the same.

A snowstorm came through while I was there, and the sidewalks were cleared and salted. The pool was open, though I didn’t try it. The service and breakfast were great, the place was clean, and I got a free upgrade. Top shelf motel. All good, thanks.
