Candlewood Suites Roswell New Mexico by IHG

The shower was the best I’ve had at a hotel, with amazing water pressure. The room was clean, the bed comfy, and the spot is quiet, tucked away from the main road. Roswell is an easy stop, and this place is dog friendly with a very reasonable pet fee. Better than I expected, and I’d recommend it.

The morning checkout turned into a stressful mess. The front desk agent seemed upset at being interrupted and brushed off technical problems. I was checked out without agreeing to it because my key had been deactivated the night before, and housekeeping then interrupted me rudely. At 10:30 AM they knocked aggressively. Staff were dismissive about my IHG membership and unfriendly when I asked about the usual 11:00 AM / noon IHG member checkout time. They left out the last part, apparently to help housekeeping. The evening shift on 1/30, by contrast, was wonderful. The bed was comfortable, the shower great, and breakfast was good, especially the waffle. That sharp change in treatment made for an incredibly stressful stay instead of a relaxing one. I won’t come back until customer care gets serious hospitality training.

The gentleman on duty when we arrived at night was very nice and accommodating. The room itself was rough: it smelled strongly of dog pee, the walls were damaged, and everything looked old and outdated. The kitchenette dishes hadn’t been cleaned before we checked in. The dishwasher smelled like it was burning while running, the TV was blurry and old, and the bed fabric was tearing underneath. At checkout, the female clerk seemed in a bad mood and was pretty rude when I asked for a receipt. The card reader for the pool area and side entrance didn’t work.

We’ve stayed here many times. The rooms are quiet compared with the Holiday Inn across the street, and the building is set up for short term living, so you can cook meals in your room. Some things not working properly seems normal here. They could use more facilities maintenance.
