Canyon Cabins

The Blue Jay cabin was cute and had what we needed, and we loved our stay. A very nice man came right away to fix the chirping fire alarm, so thank you to him. The one thing I'd change is the pillows, they were all really flat. A new sofa would be wonderful too. Thank you 🩷

A really lovely spot to be around nature. If you're lucky, you may get to feed the deer, just keep an eye out for bears!

The valley around the two-story Fox Run cabin is beautiful and peaceful, and that was the best part of our visit. We won't return to Canyon Cabins or book through Upper Canyon Cabins, though. We felt taken advantage of and left disappointed enough to give up our second night. The biggest issue was privacy. We woke around 10 pm after arriving the night before to heavy footsteps above us, and could hear the upstairs resident's TV. The cabins aren't joined inside, thankfully, but they're stacked one over another and feel like an apartment. We could hear him, so he could hear us too, which left us feeling completely embarrassed. The front of Fox Run looks so much like an office that an entire family tried to walk in while my wife was changing, thinking it was a rental office. I happened to be at the door and stopped them. We called Upper Canyon after these things piled up. They offered to move us to another cabin for $125.00-$150.00 more and said, “I will let my manager know.” There was no sense they heard how distressed we were. Almost 24 hours later, we still hadn't heard from management. With cleaning deposits and taxes, the move probably would have cost another $200.00. The hot tub was supposed to be included. We thought it would be at the cabin, and technically it was about 150-200 feet away, tucked between two other cabins with windows 10 feet from the hot tub area. There was zero privacy there, and when we went to use it, it was gone. We had even been given a code and instructions for it. The cabin's wall heater had to be cranked to 78 degrees for heat to reach the back sleeping room, and that room still felt cold. Anyone on the foldout couch near the heater would bake. The outside of Fox Run looked like an office, possibly a former garage, but that wasn't what bothered us most. We cared about privacy and a good stay on our limited vacation. If management had followed up on our concerns, maybe I wouldn't be writing this. I'll add photos to help people choose a place for a private vacation. Ruidoso is still somewhere we'll visit again, just not here. I hope this helps someone pick a nice getaway.

We've been to Canyon Cabins four times now, staying in a different cabin each visit, and each one has been a wonderful experience for my family. Mama Bear is still our favorite. This time four families came along, seven adults and nine children in different cabins, and everyone made great memories. We loved the cabins, the area around them, and the deer friends. The kids didn't want to leave, and we'll definitely return.
