High Sierra Condominium

The location is gorgeous, but the facility is run down and badly needs updating. Our three bedroom unit had spiders and small bugs in every room, and it seemed like it hadn't been fumigated in a long time. The sliding balcony door lock was stuck locked, so we couldn't use the balcony. The pullout sofa bed was broken and unusable, and its mattress was gross and unsanitary. The worst part was the guests upstairs blasting music until 4 am. Staff can't control what other guests do, but when we called to complain, neither the front desk nor the after hours number answered. There wasn't even a voicemail set up. I'd absolutely avoid this place.

We arrived after driving 300 miles and were told pets would cost $100 per day, even though I couldn't find anything online saying pets weren't allowed. The office didn't answer the phone when I tried to confirm. The place was filthy. Greasy kitchen cabinets and knobs, spiderwebs everywhere, and live BROWN RECLUSE SPIDERS in both bathrooms. The carpet was stained, cheap, and mismatched. Broken kitchen and living room tiles had sharp edges, and I almost cut myself walking on them. There were septic problems during our stay, with repair and maintenance people walking around and talking loudly early in the morning. They woke us several times. Our balcony was right above the repair area, and it smelled strongly of sewage whenever we went outside. This place is gross. There are several nicer options in Ruidoso. Don't waste your time or money here.

The appliances all worked great, and we enjoyed the TV and DVD player. The condo was really nice, with an amazing balcony view. There wasn't enough seating in the living room for a three bedroom condo, though. We had to bring in dining table and balcony chairs to sit together. We were in room 1001, where there was a bird's nest in a vent by the front door. None of the bathroom air vents worked, so shower steam lingered and the air stayed foul after someone used the bathroom.

The pool wasn't available during our stay and was supposed to be fixed in about a week. The hot tub was tiny, and both it and the pool closed too early for us to enjoy them in the evenings. The room had other problems too: the sliding door wouldn't shut properly, the nightstand hadn't been cleaned, and there wasn't a light blanket. It was hot at night, but the thermostat was locked. We were very, very disappointed with the accommodations.
