Upper Canyon Inn & Cabins

The cabins are beautiful, clean, spacious and cozy, and my interactions with Elle (?) before and on check-in day were lovely. I waited three months to write this so I could be objective instead of emotional. I only stayed one night of the three I’d planned because of the noise. The cabins are right on a very busy main street, literally called "Main Road," so I heard cars all night and into the morning. Once I finally fell asleep, the garbage truck’s loud beeps woke me up again. The young woman next door, who I’d exchanged greetings with since we checked in at the same time, had what sounded like a fist-pumping rave going until about 1 am. I didn’t sleep a wink. I told Kyle, one of the employees, and he kindly tried to move me to another cabin. But I could hear traffic from every room he showed me and knew I wouldn’t sleep there either. The replacement rooms also didn’t have the jacuzzi I’d been looking forward to. After a sequence of events I’d rather not get into, and a less than stellar interaction with the manager, Christine, I decided to stay somewhere else. It was an unfortunate loss for everyone involved. These cabins are lovely, but they don’t block noise well. I wouldn’t recommend them for light sleepers, unless you rent one of the standalone cabins far in back.

We loved our little honeymoon getaway. The room was perfect, the customer service was great, and everyone was so friendly. Everything was a short distance away, and the place was pet-friendly too. We highly recommend it to anyone who loves the wilderness. Thanks for giving us great first memories as a married couple. Until next time, Riodoso NM!

The staff were top notch. Christina and Elle were so sweet and kind, and when we decided to extend our stay, sorting it out by text was easy. They were very happy to help. Our upstairs end room was spacious, gorgeous, very clean and incredibly well stocked. It had a toaster, aluminum foil, a great microwave/convection oven, cook top, plenty of utensils, dishes and cutlery, plus a Keurig with several coffees, creamer and sugar. Two huge grills outside worked perfectly for the steaks we cooked. The bed felt luxurious, with quality sheets, huge king-sized pillows and an oversized quilt that was great on cool nights. The hot tubs were incredible, and we used them several times after long days of exploring. We had lovely views from the room and chairs just outside our door where we could sit and relax. We saw deer, elk and wild horses morning and evening. I’d wanted to take a New Mexico vacation for a long time to see where Billy the Kid lived, rode and fought. Upper Canyon Inn was a perfect base, close to Lincoln, Fort Stanton, which were both amazing to see, and White Oaks. I’m so glad we stayed here. They made my dream trip perfect, and we appreciate the care they put into the rooms. It really shows.

The location was just right, close to downtown, and the hot tub was a nice extra. The front desk lady was very nice and helpful when we arrived. We got exactly the excellent room we wanted for a getaway.
