The Firehouse Inn

Room 1 was clean, roomy, comfortable, beautifully furnished, and handy to the dining and common area. The Inn is decorated so beautifully that every space made us want to sit and linger. Mary greeted us at the door, showed us around, and helped us settle in. The next morning we met Donna over our first of two extraordinary breakfasts. Their service deserves 10 stars if that were possible. The whole stay felt warm and welcoming, and at checkout we felt like we were leaving family. We enjoyed it so much that we booked another weekend the next day. We’re looking forward to many more visits and telling people about this wonderful Bed and Breakfast and charming little town of Rutherfordton. Thanks, Firehouse Inn, for the gracious hospitality. Both mornings started with a big homecooked breakfast, and we had great conversations with the chef and owner. We stayed two nights in room 1, which was clean, with a comfortable bed and a great bathtub. The common area felt cozy, and all the spaces were nicely decorated. Water and snacks were always available, with different snacks each day. A top-notch BnB stay with friendly people.

The people were so friendly, and the whole place was beautiful. Being there felt like stepping into a Hallmark Movie, and it felt like HOME. I had such a wonderful stay at the Firehouse Inn, and I have to come back!

I have mixed feelings about the place, so here are a few things to set expectations. If there aren’t other guests booked, the Inn can feel very empty. Some music in the main areas might help, since the space felt like it had no life. You don’t see the Innkeeper much, though I don’t mean that as a bad thing. Donna prepares breakfast and is very friendly. The hearty Southern food was a great sample, but I didn’t get that usual breakfast smell; I think much of the food is prepared off site. I’m also unsure about leaving tip envelopes for the cleaning crew and Donna. I’d rather see the room price go up if they aren’t paid enough. Not many people carry cash these days, and when breakfast is included, I don’t think you should need to tip on top of that, unless perhaps you’re staying for an extended time. There are stairs down to the “first” floor and up to the second floor where breakfast is served, so keep that in mind even if it’s listed on the site. I imagine renting the place as a large group would feel different, with friends or family filling the house.
