Comfort Inn Rutland - Killington

I’ve stayed here several times and hope to keep coming back for years. The staff, including the front desk team, are great and live up to their slogan, "The friendliest Hotel In Rutland". They’re friendly and provide what I need in the room. The early breakfast is great, too. Yvonne in the breakfast area works nonstop to restock everything, from beagles to eggs. You can’t go wrong here.

The people were courteous from check-in through breakfast, but the hotel’s worn condition and cramped breakfast setup need attention. The waffle makers are wedged into a tight corner, and the other spaces feel crowded for a hotel this size. Some breakfast tables are folding tables without cloths, which makes the setup look cheap. There’s also no wall decor like signs or food pictures. The building shows its age: the bathroom mirror frame was bubbling with the finish peeling off, and the stairwell carpets are worn and overdue for replacement. In the breakfast room, replacement blinds were installed but the old vertical blind canopies were left over the windows, looking awkward. With a little effort on these details, this could be a five-star hotel.

If you need a good night’s sleep, I wouldn’t stay here. The walls are paper thin, and noise from busloads of teenagers carried on at all hours, including late at night and early morning. There was no hot water in the evening, apparently because it had all been used up. Also, a nearby train woke us at 6am on Sunday with its whistle.

For a two-star hotel in a ski area during a holiday week, this was much better than I expected. It was easy to get to, with lots of parking, and the staff were friendly. Restaurants are within walking distance, and they were helpful with Rutland Winterfest activities.
