Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Salina

For a two week stay like mine, I’d cancel and book somewhere else because the fridge only cools for two hours when you press its button. Nobody tells you this when booking, and I keep forgetting about it every few months. If you’re there for just an hour and 59 minutes, it won’t matter. Otherwise, the hotel is great and the staff seemed on point. I saw someone complain about breakfast, but I don’t eat hotel breakfasts anyway. I can’t blame the staff for a cost-cutting decision someone made in a Fairfield boardroom. I’m partly at fault for forgetting to avoid Fairfield, so I’ll get straight to the point.

Check-in went smoothly, and the room was spotless and comfortable. The whole property looked well cared for, and the staff were welcoming and friendly from the moment I arrived. They really seemed to care about making sure everything was right. I had a wonderful stay and would absolutely come back. I’d highly recommend it if you want a clean, comfortable place with outstanding service.

The towel hook is about two feet from the shower, so you have to step out of the tub to reach your towel. It’s an easy fix and not a deal breaker, but it stood out. I’m sorry to leave this review because my husband and I love this hotel, and it’s our usual halfway stop between St. Louis and Colorado. We stayed twice this week and hadn’t had problems before. In the first room, which was handicapped accessible, orange slimy stuff was stuck in the corners between the slats of the shower chair. In the second room, the same stuff was on the shower head and behind the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash holders. I believe it’s the bacteria serratia marcescens, which can cause skin rashes, infections, and urinary tract infections. Bleach can clean it effectively, and ventilation fans might help. After a hot shower, the mist lingers for a long time, and there seems to be mold where the shower and tub walls meet the ceiling.

The Fairfield is a bright yellow beacon for miles around in Salina! We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were comfortable, and the hotel is right off the highway. The desk agents were wonderful, so I’d recommend it if you’re passing through the area.
