We were in Salinas for a funeral, and about an hour before checkout my cousin stopped by to change quickly. I’d had family visit briefly at the other hotels where I stayed around Monterey and Marina, without any trouble. Here, the front desk woman told me I couldn’t have visitors, and when I explained, she was rude and showed no empathy. I asked to speak with a manager, who I think was the main manager, Peter. He didn’t care either. I understand the company policy, but the way they handled it was awful. I stepped out to my car for a moment, and the situation was treated as if I didn’t matter. I respect businesses where I feel like a valued customer, not just a money sign. If you want no contact with the staff, this might suit you. If you want friendly service, I’d strongly recommend against it. I rarely write reviews, but this experience had such a lack of customer service and empathy that I had to speak up. Check the positive and negative reviews for details on the rooms.

We got a lovely suite that looked brand new after the gentleman at the front desk upgraded us. It was pretty quiet, and the location was handy for the freeway and fast food. Monterey is close by, without the higher cost. Breakfast let us down, though. There were lots of options, but both the scrambled eggs and sausage were pretty dry.

There’s coffee in the lobby all day, and the room was quite clean for a hotel, with fresh paint, unstained carpet, and a clean bathroom. The door lock is busted, though, which makes me hesitant about staying here with my wife. If you’re fine getting a meal from a taco truck, it isn’t a bad place.

For a road trip stop, it worked well for one night. The room was very clean and we even got an upgrade. Desk staff were friendly, though pretty aloof, with quiet quitting vibes. Breakfast had some good choices, but the coffee was a nightmare. A decent practical place for a short stay, though not somewhere for a fun, romantic getaway.

They charged me $250 for smoking even though I don’t smoke or vape. What a joke. Be prepared for a surprise charge on your card if you stay here. The breakfast was undercooked, although the rooms weren’t bad.
