Blue Jay Inn and Suites

The door between the rooms wouldn't latch or lock. Someone had jammed a pocket knife into the molding to hold it shut, and the molding was so loose I could probably pull it off with one hand. I don't have a child who might play with that knife, fortunately. I'll take it to the desk at checkout and tell them they need a safer fix. If someone with bad intentions were in the other room, they could easily kick the door in, so I piled furniture against it. Under the furniture I moved, I found a dirty sock and more trash. There were open bottles in the freezer too, the ironing board was disgusting, and the ice machine was empty, dirty, and clearly broken for a long time. I bet the convenience store next door appreciates selling all that ice to the guests here. I booked the king suite for its jetted tub because of my back problems, and it sounded wonderful after a long road trip. The toilet hadn't been cleaned properly: it had the paper band around the seat, but there was still a little poop in the bowl that I had to flush. The tub seams had mildew. The small rubber stopper didn't fit, and splashing knocked it out of the drain unless I filled the tub at a trickle. I was afraid to use the jets, and the faucet kept dripping after I filled it, so I gave up soaking after a few minutes. If it hadn't been almost 11 p.m. after 12 hours of driving, I would've demanded a refund and found somewhere else, even without getting my money back.

There were roaches everywhere, and the bed made so much noise that a light-sleeping couple wouldn't get any sleep. They also moved us upstairs against our wishes so the cleaning lady could move downstairs. The owner said he needed the room for a handicapped person, lol. They lied about checkout being Saturday when I started two weeks in a new room on Saturday.

My room was clean and a good size, and it was quiet, set back from the highway and its trucks and traffic. There's a nice grassy spot across the street for walking dogs. Water pressure was poor, the Wi-Fi was mediocre, and there was no fax for business use. I'm not very fussy, and most of the reviews I've seen here don't match my view. It's no Ritz, but it's no Bates either.

We paid by the week, yet housekeeping refused to give us clean sheets, saying they “don't have extra.” We only got clean towels after taking the old ones to the housekeeper, then waiting three hours for them to be washed and dried. The housekeeping service was the worst ever. We didn't expect anything fancy, but basic services should come with what you're paying for.
