Aloft by Marriott San Antonio Airport

Ricardo checked me in and was super nice, and Jose, the airport shuttle driver, was just as friendly. On May 10 I booked a large, quiet room with two queen beds, modern decor, and very comfortable beds and pillows. The hotel is close to the airport and beside a shopping mall with a good range of restaurants. Renovations were underway, including work on damaged carpets throughout the building and the small, outdated room TVs, which barely worked. That kept me from giving Aloft five stars. Breakfast choices were very limited, and I had to pay despite being a Titanium Elite member, after choosing welcome points. In decades as a Marriott member, nearly every hotel with free breakfast has given me both the points and breakfast. I also agree with other reviewers that the sink and shower water didn't get hot, though it was warm enough for a comfortable shower. The price was right, the staff were accommodating, and I look forward to staying again.

I had some doubts after reading earlier reviews, but I was really pleased with my stay. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly, and the location worked very well for what I needed. The beds were among the best I've had in a hotel, with plenty of pillows. And the blackout shades actually blocked the light, which was a miracle for someone working night shifts. I'd choose Aloft again if I needed a hotel in the area.

The staff were friendly, and the location was ideal, right by Wonderland mall, a few restaurants, and not far from the St Mary strip or the Riverwalk. There was lots of parking, and the incidental fee wasn't too high. But guest requests don't seem to get communicated well, cleanliness could be better, breakfast and the market were odd, and the property could use some cosmetic upkeep. The market mostly had organic, healthy options, and there was no microwave in the room. For New Year's weekend I called well in advance to reserve a double queen ADA room. I work night shifts and finished late, and the GSA on the phone said they'd meet our needs. On arrival we got a standard queen room without enough floor or shower space for our situation. Ricardo at the desk and the GM worked it out by giving us another room, which helped a lot. I again asked after midnight for late checkout for both rooms so I could get ready with my other guest. One room's keys were deactivated at noon, and housekeeping knocked even though I'd been assured the request would be honored. One bathroom also wasn't clean. With some improvements, I could give this Aloft five stars.

I stayed over New Year's. The staff were friendly, especially Ricardo at the desk, but I don't think I'll return. The hotel needs renovation and better upkeep. Aloft isn't a brand-new brand, but the property could still be in better shape. Both requests I sent through the app were missed, so desk communication needs work. We had no microwave, and there was no ice machine on our floor. I also saw two small roaches crawling on the bathroom sink, which could point to a bigger problem. The location is convenient, but the property isn't well kept. Breakfast is overpriced when there are plenty of places to eat nearby, and the market items cost a lot too. To reach five stars, they should renovate, add ice machines and microwaves, clean the pool more often, and improve the food options.
