Baymont by Wyndham San Antonio Airport

For a single guy trying to save money, this was a great deal, though probably less appealing for a delicate couple. We were fine, and my girlfriend is adaptable and good with money. I’d rather save and spend it on her, on Sophora and things like that, than on a hotel. It was one of only two pet-friendly places nearby at $100, but the extra $25 pet charge wasn’t advertised and came as a shock. Next time I’ll carry the dog up the stairs to avoid those hidden fees. I slept well, the AC was good, and the bed was firm. They gave me extra pillows and towels. The parking lot was well lit, though I still keep my head on a swivel in unfamiliar places. We checked out by 11 a.m.

The cleaning staff did a lovely job, which was the one good part of my stay. Travelocity advertised a 24/7 gym, but there wasn’t one on site. My room smelled of smoke, and despite the hotel being so close to the airport, they offered no shuttle. I made four trips to the front desk before anyone helped with the TV remote batteries, and the replacements they gave me didn’t work either. The so-called continental breakfast was two kinds of cold cereal, lukewarm watered-down orange juice, and a half-full bowl of old apples.

My biggest suggestion is to do a quick sweep, dust, and spot check before handing over the keys. It would probably take ten minutes. Freshening the room and turning on the AC before guests arrive would help too. I did find two bugs, and when I asked to move, they took care of it immediately without questions. Staff were friendly, management gave me no trouble, and housekeeping kept checking whether I needed trash taken out, towels, sheets, or anything else. I booked through Priceline at a better rate as a VIP member, and they treated me just the same. I’d read the three reviews here but didn’t run into the problems they described. The location was hard to spot at night, and I missed it twice, my fault for not watching the street. I enjoyed my stay and would’ve extended, but Priceline’s rate went up. Management offered to honor the stay, though their rate was quite a bit higher, so we left. I promised a fair review because I think they deserve one. Please give the place a try, and don’t just rely on the other three reviews. I used to have a different Google account, which was hacked, and I used to be a tour guide in San Antonio. I try hard to write honest, detailed reviews. No military rates offered.

We stayed three nights, and I wouldn’t recommend this place. Ants kept appearing from who knows where. When I raised it with staff, they didn’t offer another room, so I had to buy pesticide and handle it myself. There was also a strange employee who kept telling me I’d stayed there before without explaining what she meant. Twice, she stood in the hallway until I went into my room. I brought my cat for just an hour while we were moving into an apartment, and she made a big issue of it.
