Best Western Alamo Suites

The outside of the building looks a little rough, and the area feels a tiny bit sketchy, but the inside is well maintained. It’s well worth the price. We’ve been here a week and decided to stay another one after my husband got a job in San Antonio. I’m picky about hotels, and this has been a great stay. Our room is spacious, has two beds and a pull-out bed, plus a microwave and small fridge. No bugs or stains, the AC works well, the bathroom was extremely clean when we arrived, and the TV and WiFi have both worked perfectly. It also gets pretty quiet after hours. Rebecca at the front desk is super friendly, and the rest of the staff have been incredibly helpful. Housekeeping really stood out. They cleaned our room and were so detailed that I was surprised by how thorough they were. There’s an indoor pool, though the jacuzzi is down right now. Breakfast each morning has saved me a lot of time making food.

The location worked well for us, close and convenient to downtown, though the area felt a little seedy. Someone on our floor was definitely smoking weed in the hallway. We had a good time and felt comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the Texas shaped waffles were fun. Our room was clean and cozy, if a bit dinky. The bathroom door wouldn’t lock, its handle felt janky, the lights flickered when switched off, and there was a hole in the carpet. We’d consider staying here again on another San Antonio trip.

The mini blueberry muffins at breakfast were better than any bakery’s, outstanding. The rest was good too: eggs, potatoes, sausage, dry cereal, waffles, toast and bananas. We’d read the reviews and chose to stay anyway because we earn Best Western points. It was our anniversary trip. The staff responses don’t seem to have fixed any of the bad reviews from six months earlier. We also thought we’d be closer to the River Walk, and the listing wasn’t accurate. The area feels a little sketchy, especially with the bad parking. The staff were friendly, the bed was very comfortable, and the full length mirrors pleased my wife. There were only four small pillows, so we were glad we’d brought some from home. The pool was dirty and nasty, and the jacuzzi didn’t work. The tub and shower need a slip resistant mat. I nearly fell because it was so slippery. The hot water gets extremely HOT, so don’t let children run their own bath. It seemed odd to us as travelers that if you stay more than one night, you have to call housekeeping to clean the room, change bedding, refill toilet paper and bring fresh towels.

Our stay was horrible, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. The room smelled bad, the AC didn’t cool, and there were stains on the sheets. On our second day out, we returned to find a cigarette on top of the dresser. Neither my wife nor I smoke, much less our children. The bathroom was falling apart, with loose screws everywhere, a loose toilet seat and a clogged sink. We were overcharged by $100. When we asked, they said there was a $50 fee we’d get back, but couldn’t explain the other $50.
