Courtyard by Marriott San Antonio Airport/North Star Mall

We stayed one night for my son's birthday in San Antonio. We paid for the room when we arrived, then checked out the next day. We were told there was a fee for secure parking, only to be told afterward that the vehicle was left at our own risk. The day after check-out, they charged our card $20 with that label. Now it's day three and they're trying to charge us again for the full room cost. A one-night room paid for on arrival has somehow led to more than two nights of charges, and this is three separate charges. I'm extremely shocked and disappointed. I hope people know about the credit card scam happening at this hotel. You shouldn't charge someone's card after they've left the premises and been gone more than 48 hours when the services were already paid for. I'll never recommend this hotel. I'm reporting it to my financial institution and, honestly, the authorities too.

We came to San Antonio hoping to relax, but the stay turned into a stressful mess. The hallway carpets were dirty, and the rooms we were moved through had cleanliness problems. After arriving around 3 AM from Dallas, we went straight to sleep in room #322. In the morning we found it hadn’t been cleaned properly, so the front desk moved us to room #421. The bathtub and toilet there were dirty too, and staff had to come clean them. Our granddaughter started coughing, and we first thought it might be allergies or the trip. Around 2 AM, I spotted a lot of mold under the sink. She’s in the early stages of asthma, so we went back to the desk and were moved again, to room #409. While packing, we noticed peeling wallpaper beside the bed in room #422 and found mold behind the wall. We also saw signs of mold in the next room. This property seems to have serious cleaning and maintenance problems. Mold can be a health hazard, especially for guests with breathing conditions like asthma. The city health department really should inspect it, because guests could be at risk.

The stairwell smelled strongly of garbage, and even after I was moved from smoky room 214 to the better room 210, the bathroom was out of shampoo and body wash. I checked in April 27 for two nights. Watch out for the gated parking charge: it’s $6.40 per day, no matter how long you use the garage. Even a five-minute drop-off at the hotel still gets charged $6.40. I used to count this among my favorite hotels in San Antonio, but now I’d seriously think twice before booking.

The room was okay but felt dated, with noticeable wear on the couch, table, and desk. Lighting was poor throughout, and there were no overhead lights. The amber bulbs were dim even by the vanity, so I had to lean in close to see in the mirror. The wall control for the heat pump didn’t work. At 6:45 AM the shower had limited hot water, and the hotel seemed less than half full. The Bistro grill didn’t open at night because the chef didn’t show up. Wi-Fi wasn’t enough for several users, and the TV remote had its closed-caption and brightness features locked. There was no alarm clock in the room.
