Extended Stay America San Antonio North

The room was fairly clean, but a lot wasn't right. The inside lights didn't work, the couch looked like somebody had picked it up free from the street, and the office chair was in horrible shape. The towels felt like 10 grit sandpaper, and there wasn't a trash can in the room. We called the front desk over and over with no answer. When we went downstairs, it was empty, and a couple there said they'd already been waiting 45 minutes for someone to show up.

The staff stayed friendly, polite, and professional throughout my five-week business stay at Extended Stay America – San Antonio North. The location suited me while I waited for my new apartment to be finished, and it worked for my circumstances. Still, guests should know that many people seem to live there full time, so it feels more residential than like a typical hotel. My room wasn't clean at check-in, so I bought cleaning supplies and air freshener myself. There was no hot water for eight days, and management could have communicated better or offered some goodwill for the disruption. Housekeeping was very limited too: my bedding wasn't changed until week three. The grab-and-go breakfast was mostly coffee, so don't expect much. The property's condition and service fell short of what I expected, despite the good staff and convenient location.

I didn't want to touch anything in the room. It was absolutely filthy: the accent chair was scratched up, the toilet was dirty with an extremely worn seat, and food and other debris were stuck to the walls. Housekeeping needs retraining.

The staff were welcoming, the only good thing about my visit. I left without staying. The lobby was uninviting, with just a sofa and one TV. The elevator shook and sounded as if it might come apart whenever its doors opened or closed. The hallway smelled bad, and the dim lighting and carpet made it feel creepy, like walking into the Cecil hotel. My room door looked as if someone had tried to pry it open with a crowbar. Inside, the TV only showed half its screen, the room smelled musty, and the shower had stains and hair from the previous guest. The owners should fix these problems and post accurate photos. For $20 more, there are clean, updated hotels a few blocks away. Don't waste your money here.
