The photos are very misleading. The hotel was run down and in disrepair, with dirty, old rooms and a foul smell in both the hallway and room. I lasted about 10 seconds before checking out, after being greeted by two cockroaches. The front desk said I'd get a refund when the manager returned. It's been over a month, and despite several calls, I haven't had a callback or credit. I filed a credit card dispute, which Microtel is fighting. Avoid this dump.

The hotel was very nice and clean, and the staff were great. It's centrally located for everything we wanted to do. There's construction going on, so getting there takes a little longer, but it's worth it. My toilet sometimes wouldn't refill or would keep running, and the staff took care of it. I wish I'd taken more pictures to share. I also appreciated that continental breakfast ran from 6:30 to 9:30. At most places it's 6 to 9, and I end up missing it. That extra half hour made a world of difference for me.

The staff made the three-night stay especially nice. They were friendly and helpful, and the young man working the first two nights was welcoming, professional, and polite. He even talked football with my husband, which was a plus. The hotel looked great inside and out and was very clean. The bed was comfortable, the AC worked well, room service was available, and the bathroom was clean with a spacious shower and tub, consistently hot water, and clean towels. There were vending machines too. We paid a good price, especially for the San Antonio area, and our experience was great overall. The queen room was small, which the name more or less implied. A few things could be better: the hot tub was warm but not hot, its bubble jets didn't work, breakfast was bland with little choice, the pillows had stains, cable options were limited, and a mini fridge and microwave would have been handy. We booked through Expedia and had room 122.

The staff were friendly, and the room was clean. The bed was reasonably comfortable, but the old smell in the room had a bit of a mildew quality. Breakfast choices were dismal. The walls are thin, and the AC is loud and makes knocking sounds, so getting a good night's sleep was difficult. Don't stay here if you need a quiet, restful night.
