Hampton Inn Chula Vista Eastlake

The room was clean and the continental breakfast was decent, but we barely slept. We were in Room 250, and all night there was a noise like a cement mixer right outside. We couldn't tell if it was the downstairs AC unit on its last legs or something else. Even white noise from both our phones couldn't cover it. I wouldn't come back if I needed a night's sleep.

On a quick trip to the area, I felt welcome as a solo traveler. The room was very comfortable and the facilities were clean. Staff were patient and accommodating. Alexander answered several of my questions about the area, and Hannah in housekeeping called me back after looking for an item I'd lost. It made for a welcome stay.

The staff were polite and did try to help, but the repeated room changes and cleanliness problems were really frustrating. I booked through Expedia, and at $159 a night I expected much better service and a clean room. I wasn't given any compensation for the inconvenience, and I wouldn't recommend staying here unless things improve a lot. First I was put in a room where trails of ants came from the closet into the bathroom and got into my daughter's and my clothes. They moved us to another room, but its bathroom was dirty and flooded. I went back to the front desk and was told a manager would follow up, but instead we were switched to a third room. That one was better, though it still had an ant.

I've stayed at Hampton Inn Chula Vista twice recently, and Reynold is always great at customer service when I check in. I also like that the hotel texts to check whether everything is okay during the stay. I noticed Hutch taking care of the breakfast area. He kept wiping down the food area, clearing tables, and restocking. You can tell he takes pride in the job, which you don't see often these days. Good team members are hard to find, so take care of them!
