Hampton Inn San Diego-Kearny Mesa

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the hotel did what we needed, though it wasn't anything special. The breakfast room is small, so it gets chaotic when everyone comes down to eat. We've stayed a few times before, and each time there was a soccer team staying too. Remember to get your pool towels, since the pool area never seems to have any stocked.

Everything else was fine, but I was caught off guard by the parking charge. We'd stayed at this same hotel four months earlier, in Aug 2025, when parking was $18 a night, $36 total, which seemed acceptable. This time, for 12/26/25-12/28/25, it had gone up to $25 per night, $50 total. That's way too much, and I'd have booked elsewhere if I'd known. I booked in Oct 2025 and couldn't find the parking price then. You only learn the cost at check-in. I wish they made it clearer.

The parking fee on top of the room cost was the one thing I didn't like. I've never really run into that before, and I hope they change it someday. Otherwise, we loved the stay. Peter was welcoming and super friendly at check-in, which went smoothly, and he explained everything we needed to know. Our room was clean and nice, and the surrounding area was pretty quiet. Breakfast was good for a free meal, with boxed cereal, a waffle maker, and fresh potatoes.

A solid four stars. Breakfast was good, and the lobby was a nice place to hang out. There aren't any safes in the rooms. The downside was the $18 parking fee around the hotel.
