Heritage Inn San Diego

I was a little nervous because of the reviews, but I was very pleased with my three-night stay last week. Housekeeping came daily and did a good job refreshing the room. I felt safe leaving my belongings, and the location was amazing. The rules were straightforward: don’t smoke or bring pets, and you’ll get your deposit back. Easy.

The staff were very friendly when we arrived, but I wouldn’t stay here again. We booked this as a birthday-trip package. I was excited to visit California for the first time, coming from Indiana. The room had only a bed, a small table, and a refrigerator that froze everything. I like to unpack when I travel, so I was surprised there wasn’t even a little dresser or metal rack for bags. The hot water was unreliable during evening showers. Every night the parking lot was full, so I assume most guests were in their rooms. Maybe everyone showered at once, but after about five minutes there was no pressure and no hot water. On the first night I woke with an intensely itchy spot on my arm. I’d checked the bed when I arrived, including unzipping the mattress protector to look for bedbugs, and found nothing, so I guessed it was a mosquito bite. By the third night I woke with another bite and found a roach in the bathroom. I was getting more worried about bedbugs, though I still hadn’t seen one. While packing to leave, I noticed a bug crawling on a brown paper sack in the room. It was a bedbug. I took a picture and killed it. I told the staff at checkout and was given a business card for the property manager. I’ve sent two emails and text messages using the contact details, but nobody has followed up.

I had a comfortable, reliable stay during a quick SeaWorld trip. The hotel is being updated, and my room and the common areas were very clean. The grounds were well maintained, and I had no noise issues. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. They offered early check-in for a small fee and were willing to hold my bags if the room wasn’t ready. It’s a convenient location for SeaWorld and works well for a short stay.

We were amazed by how much of a gem this was for the price. Our room was spectacularly clean, maybe because we booked a different room that cost $10 more. There’s lots to do in the area, which wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t book this place if your main focus is having things to do inside the hotel. This is the first time I’ve disagreed with the general opinion about a hotel. The place speaks for itself, and I’m looking forward to visiting again!
