Homewood Suites by Hilton San Diego Downtown/Bayside

I was disappointed with how dirty the common areas were. I stayed on the fifth floor, and the hallway stayed filthy for at least two days. I understand the hotel was undergoing some renovation, but that doesn’t explain leaving it unclean. I uploaded a photo, and the elevator needed a scrub too. I also asked for a blanket one night and never got it. An employee I spoke with about a billing question was rather rude. And parking was $60. I understand charging for parking, but with no other convenient lots nearby, it felt like they were taking advantage of guests.

We ended up leaving and booking somewhere else because, after the way we were treated, we no longer felt comfortable staying here. It was the worst hotel experience I’ve had, with unbearable noise and poor service throughout. Soon after check-in, the room’s air conditioner started sounding like an engine running nonstop. The fan was stuck on high, with no way to turn it down, so relaxing or sleeping was impossible. A woman who answered our call said she’d move us, but later another staff member called back and said there was nothing they could do, offering earplugs instead. The person on the phone was rude and dismissive and hung up on us. Only after we spoke with the manager did the hotel offer a different room, by which point the damage was done. We’d already been treated so poorly and received so little basic customer service that we chose to leave. Later, we found out the hotel had numerous bad reviews mentioning rude staff. Between the noise, the lack of basic amenities, and the disrespectful service, it failed to meet even minimal hospitality standards. I’d strongly advise others to stay elsewhere unless they’re okay with sleepless nights and being treated like an inconvenience.

A cheerful staff member welcomed us around midnight and immediately understood our situation. We’d flown from Buffalo to San Diego, and the airline had lost all our luggage. It was delivered the next day, but after a long travel day, it made a big difference that the staff member made sure our two-bedroom suite had what we needed. We stayed from 31 July to 02 August 2025, for three nights. The hotel was well located near amenities, the seaside, the zoo, and parks. Breakfast was decent, though I’d have liked more coffee options and a more consistent selection of fruit. No water bottles were provided after check-in, which I wondered about since we were paying for the room each day. The bigger disappointment was parking at USD 60 per day. We paid USD 180 for three nights, and I think the hotel should reconsider that fee. It was a pleasant stay with convenient surroundings and great service, but parking cost too much.

It’s a great spot for walking to the bay and Little Italy, and the staff were friendly. The on-site restaurant was good too. Parking is valet only, at $30 a day plus tip. The rooms could use some maintenance: there was a hole in the bathroom wall stuffed with TP. The pool was cold and badly needed cleaning.
