I was in San Diego for a conference and stayed at Hotel Z for seven nights. It’s only a few blocks from the convention center, and the location is great. We booked on Cyber Monday and got a good deal, averaging about $165 a night after amenity fees and taxes. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the fluffy duvet was among the most comfortable hotel bedding we’ve had. The main challenge was the noise. Soundproofing seemed nonexistent, and I’d suggest asking to move if you get a second-floor room facing the street. Even with the windows shut and earplugs in, I woke at least once each night. People were coming and going from bars and clubs, cars blasted music, and worst of all, dumpster trucks arrived daily between 4-5a. They were so loud it felt like machinery was running in our room. I wish we’d asked to switch early, before unpacking so much and assuming it wouldn’t happen every night. For a longer stay, we also missed having a fridge or microwave, which I think are only in suites, and even a small fitness center. My husband came along and worked from home each morning. We used the bikes, but there aren’t many good paths nearby that are easy to reach quickly. One extra tip: Rolling Out bakery is a few blocks away in Gaslamp, and its pastries are worth dreaming about.

My company chose this affordable Staypineapple Hotel while I was attending an event at the nearby Convention Center. It was my first time at one, and I liked the cute, cozy, clean rooms and welcoming staff. The free drink was useful the next morning when I traded in the coaster for a cold brew coffee. The Convention Center, Petco Park, and some really nice places to eat were all a short walk away, which worked well for my coworkers and me. I’m looking forward to trying the location in Boston. I hope whoever buys this San Diego location keeps the charm you notice as soon as you arrive.

The whole place felt fun, clean, and welcoming, and the staff were friendly from check-in onward. My room was adorable and fresh, with a ridiculously cozy bed. I also liked all the small decorative touches that gave the building its own character. Being right in Gaslamp made it easy to explore downtown shops and eateries, and the convenient spot made my trip more relaxing. I had a great time and would absolutely stay again. A cute, comfortable place that’s easy to enjoy.

We didn’t need a car because the hotel is close to public transport, restaurants, and nightlife in the heart of Gaslamp Quarter. The rooms were clean and well furnished, and the staff were cheerful and helpful throughout. We loved meeting the friendly pup-guests and plan to bring our dogs next time. The free bikes and reusable water bottles were a nice touch. We’ll be back.

The price worked for us, and the location was ideal, with lots of food and entertainment an easy walk away. The rooms were comfortable, the hospitality was great, and getting to borrow bikes for free was a real plus. I only wished there’d been a gym and breakfast, but neither was a deal breaker. A lovely little boutique hotel.
