Hotel Indigo San Diego-Gaslamp Quarter by IHG

We could hear the elevator all night, and hallway footsteps came through the very thin walls. The room seemed clean, though the vending and ice machines on our floor were out of order. Our “city view” was really the side of a neighboring apartment complex. The balconies were so close to the window that leaving the curtains open at night felt uncomfortable. Valet was $65 a night, with nowhere else to park. It’s convenient for a night in the gaslamp, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it otherwise.

We were close enough to enjoy everything, while staying a little away from the central district noise. The staff were kind and attentive, and brought extra towels quickly when I asked. I really enjoyed staying here.

The mandatory valet was $65 a night, and the amenity fee wasn’t waived, so my reward point stay still cost $200 for two nights of parking and amenities. It wasn’t worth it, and I won’t return or recommend this place. Our 4:00 check-in turned into a wait until 7:30 for the room. They said they’d text us, but no message came. We happened to check at 7:30 and it had just been finished. At the roof top bar, we had dessert from down the street, and the waitress said outside food wasn’t allowed but she’d “let it slide if we ordered a drink.” Breakfast took about an hour after we sat down, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy and we’d only ordered eggs.

I always look forward to staying here for work. The front desk is super helpful, and the rooms are nice. There’s plenty of food and activities nearby, and it’s a great location for walking around.
