La Pensione Hotel

If noise bothers you, I wouldn't risk staying at La Pensione. My room faced an extremely busy street, with traffic, loud music, and voices carrying late into Wednesday evening. I hoped it would be quiet in the morning, but around 8:30 am some men were having a loud, chaotic conversation outside. The mini split was another problem. With the cool air on, it made a noise way beyond a hum, more like a whine or screech. My one night there was hellish, honestly. The room and hotel also seemed a little run down. I can see it working for people who want to eat, drink, and party in Little Italy and walk back to their lodging late.

There are lots of restaurants nearby, and the Farmer's Market sets up right outside the hotel on Saturday mornings. The location in Little Italy is perfect, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. I'd love to stay again!

The room being small wasn't a big deal, I understand that. But it was one of the dirtiest rooms I've stayed in. The carpet was filthy and smelled like urine to me, and I used half a bottle of concentrated air freshener trying to get rid of the dank, funky odor. I kept my feet off the floor and wouldn't shower without flip flops. Never again. I'll pay more to stay somewhere clean.

On the morning after we arrived on Friday October 17, 2025, I asked the desk to have our room sprayed. The woman working was sooooo rude and said there'd be no spraying, asking what we expected with so many restaurants around. The night before, when we found two roaches in the bathroom at bedtime, I called downstairs. Since it was 10 pm and there was no maintenance person on duty, we understood the room couldn't be sprayed right then. I asked for bleach for the drains, and the woman on duty was very sweet: she brought it up, poured it down the drains, and left a neutralizer to help with the bleach fumes. We barely slept, actually not at all. They offered to move us next door both days, but I figured the pipes and sewers were probably connected. We found another roach the next evening. This filth is unacceptable. I don't have roaches at home, and never expected to pay to sleep with them.
