Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter

We had a fun, happy vibe from the decor, and the location was great. Check-in was easy, and the wristband room key was cool. Service at the rooftop bar was fabulous, the margaritas were delicious, and the bartenders were fun. The cute rooms could use deep cleaning and some TLC. I noticed a musty smell near the sink. Breakfast was understaffed too. We went in at 9:30 on checkout morning, then left at 10:30 for breakfast across the street because we still hadn't gotten drinks or water. Yikes. The restaurant staff were friendly and probably very busy, but I wish they'd told us they couldn't accommodate us instead of leaving us waiting an hour for a cup of Joe.

The place is practically brand new, with lovely decor that fits its beach, relaxation, and good-life feel. Our room was a great size, and we loved how it looked. The location is exceptional, near most tourist attractions and surrounded by restaurants and bars. Valet staff were friendly and attentive. There were a few problems. The towels in our room when we arrived looked trampled. We told reception, and they asked us to email about it. We used the sofa bed, but for some reason housekeeping made only the main bed when cleaning the room. Most frustrating, though, was the reception staff's lack of friendliness. We had to ask several questions and got as few words as possible in reply. The next day a different person didn't know what the happy hour at the bar included, even though it was advertised on the reception slides. I don't understand how they work there with such a zero customer service attitude.

The rooftop pool was excellent, especially because it was heated. The hotel was clean throughout, and our room was spacious and beautifully decorated. We had a wonderful time and would definitely come back. Valet parking costs a hefty $60 per night, but it felt like the best option and very safe. Kamal from the valet team was especially helpful and friendly. We had great conversations, and he shared lots of useful tips about the area. Ask Kamal if you need recommendations. One small drawback was that rooftop bar drinks came only in plastic cups because of the pool area. We were three people, two adults and a toddler, and there was no baby crib available to borrow. I also recommend making restaurant reservations in advance, both at the hotel and elsewhere. Thanks for a great stay!

The room was roomy, clean, and cute, with the whole Margaritavill/Jimmy Buffet look. Kamal and Josh at valet were so good to me during my weeklong conference. I had to head out every day, and they made sure my car was ready quickly so I could get to my meetings on time. I’m looking forward to staying again.
