The city is beautiful, though food costs too much with all the hotels and tourists around. I used to live here, and it’s much better than I expected. Quiet most of the time, except on weekends.

At night the Gaslamp district really lights up, with streets full of music, people, and twinkling lights. There are bars, restaurants, and clubs all around, and it’s a great place to visit while you’re in San Diego.
We came for the tacos and outdoor seating, and both were great. This is the historic heart of San Diego and an iconic landmark. Don’t miss it!
Fifth Avenue has sections closed to cars, with tents and pop-up shops selling all kinds of things, so it’s a fun area to walk around day or night. Gaslamp is a really cool neighborhood, packed with bars, shops, hotels, and entertainment, close to the convention center and San Diego Bay. It gets extremely busy at night until the local bars close.
We went in the late afternoon from Marina Del Rey, had a great Italian dinner, then headed back around 1 a.m. Loved being able to walk around and enjoy the nightlife. I’d highly recommend it, and next time we’ll get there much earlier.
