Holiday Inn Express & Suites San Diego Gaslamp Quarter

They were generous enough to move me to a private room after my first night in a dorm, and I’d definitely return for a private room. The staff were the best, so helpful and kind, and the hostel felt secure. I loved the colorful art and plants everywhere. The big lockers fit a carry-on and more, towels were free, and the WiFi was good. The free morning coffee was a nice touch too. The shared dorms are standard hostel style, with metal bunks that shake easily, so you feel your bunk mate moving. I’d like covers on the top bunks so they have the same privacy and shade from overhead lights as the bottom ones, especially since people switch the lights on at all hours. Thanks for a lovely stay!

We arrived well before check-in, but the staff kindly let us leave our bags in storage. The hostel felt welcoming as soon as we walked in and sits in a great, walkable spot. It also offers free overnight street parking. Our private room was clean and cozy, and the bathrooms were really clean too. We had a great time.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and their kindness really improved our stay. When I accidentally broke a button, they were understanding and gracious. They didn’t make an issue of it or ask me to pay. It’s also easy to get around from this downtown location. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby, and buses and the metro are easy to reach.

I wanted somewhere affordable in SD that didn’t feel sketchy, and Gaslamp Hostel was just right. It’s in a great downtown spot, and I couldn’t hear any street noise. Definitely a great place to stay.
