Hotel Zephyr San Francisco

The building is older, and some of the paint on the renovations hasn’t held up, but our room was clean and both the AC and fridge worked well. We had a great stay at Hotel Zephyr. The front desk staff were kind and helpful, and my child enjoyed the fire pits and game room. The location worked really well for getting around, from Ghirardelli east to the Ferry Building. The Ferris wheel, Pier 39, Big Bus tours, 7/11, buses and trolleys were all easy to reach.

We had a great view of the SkyStar Wheel from our balcony, and my son loved spending time in the game room and courtyard. The hotel’s decor is cool and eclectic, and everyone we met there was friendly. It was really convenient to get bottled water from the front desk each day. The location is fantastic, right by Pier 39 with easy access to lots of sights. There’s no food or drink on site, but The Socialite is across the courtyard and opens at 12 PM. IHOP and 7-Eleven are in the same block/building for a quick bite or convenience items.

The staff interaction left us with a strange impression. Nobody was rude, but they seemed disengaged and didn’t offer much warmth, information about the hotel, or suggestions for things to do. More welcoming service would make a real difference. We had a good family trip overall and liked the location, which was excellent for exploring the waterfront and nearby sights. The on-site games and activities kept everyone entertained and added some fun. Our room was fine for a short stay, comfortable enough, though nothing special.

The room and bathroom didn’t feel clean, the beds were small and rock hard, and there were no extra pillows or blankets in the closet. The pictured dart board wasn’t in the room. The place felt kind of creepy, the hallway carpets made me dizzy, and the patios all face each other, so there’s no privacy. Getting from parking to the lobby with bags was ridiculous, since you have to use the stairs until you get a room key. We left our bags and went to check in around 1pm, but that was too early unless we paid another $50. I didn’t want to leave everything in the car, so the front desk lady sent a guy to get the bags. When we finally checked in and they reached the room, I was out on the patio. The Asian guy asked my teenage daughter for a tip. She said she had no cash, and he told her there was an ATM in the lobby. Rude and awkward. I expected the $65 parking charge, but my card was charged $115.30. I’ve called and left messages for several days and haven’t heard back.
