The main thing to know is that parking didn’t feel safe. Both the hotel lot and nearby shopping center lots warn people to remove valuables and park at their own risk. On our second night, my enclosed car trailer was broken into, along with another guest’s vehicle. The trailer was right under a light pole, and the other car was next to the hotel. We’ve stayed here twice. The first time, they didn’t have the king room I’d reserved because they were really busy, though they gave a partial refund. On our second, two-night stay, we got the room we booked. The hotel is being refreshed, with bathrooms already redone and new AC units being installed. Hopefully the room furniture is next, since it looks dirty and stained.

After a long workday, my husband and I arrived to find our reservation had been canceled without any notice. The woman at the desk wasn’t to blame, but casually told us we’d been canceled because they were over capacity. We had booked and paid weeks earlier, so it felt like they’d taken our money and left us with nowhere to go. We spent 45 minutes in the car on the phone with Priceline just to get a refund. They had to call the hotel to find out why we’d been canceled, which took forever. We travel a lot for work and stay in hotels around the country, and this was our first Hampton Inn. We chose it because the price was comparable. We finally got back to a Holiday Inn, where they’ve always treated us well, have never canceled on us, and got us a room at midnight. The front desk guy there was nicer too.

The room was clean and worked fine, though it felt a little dark. The AC and heater were old, and water pressure was low. Still, the stay was pretty pleasant, and there were lots of places nearby to eat.

Rooms are clean, the price is good, and the service is good. I don’t think the current 3.8 star rating reflects the value for money. There was, or maybe still is, a homeless camp across the street, though I think the city is clearing it up or at least reducing the number of people in tents. The hotel is great and can’t really control how the city handles homelessness.
