Residence Inn by Marriott Dana Point San Juan Capistrano

The rooms were a great size for our family of four, with plenty of room to settle in and relax. The hotel was very clean throughout, and the front desk staff made everything easy from check-in to checkout. We had a comfortable, convenient stay at this Residence Inn in Dana Point and would definitely return when we're in the area. Highly recommend it for families visiting South County.

We stayed for almost two weeks because the location was close to the events and meetings we needed to attend. The price was more than reasonable, the room was very clean and well kept, and the excellent amenities and service were a bonus. The pool, hot tub, exercise room, and putting green were all clean and well maintained. Breakfast was typical for what's included at this class of hotel. The staff are clearly proud of their work and the establishment. Every person we met was friendly and top-notch, with service at the level of a much more expensive hotel. Mason especially stood out for anticipating what we needed and solving problems.

I booked one night through American Express and paid $285 up front. At check-in, the front desk said they had an issue with their computer and finished the process at another desk. Later, when I reconciled my expenses, I saw the $285 American Express charge as well as another $251.21 charge from the hotel for the same room. I called Marriott Bonvoy, and the agent agreed I'd been charged twice. An agent at the Residence Inn by Marriott Dana Point San Juan Capistrano also confirmed the duplicate charge. After I disputed the extra charge with American Express, Marriott Bonvoy still refused to issue a credit, even after its employees verified on recorded calls that I was charged twice. It took some work to reach a manager, but the Assistant General Manager, Nomi Gerber, eventually reversed the charge and said she'd address it with the team. Thanks for making it right. I'll keep staying here for business trips.

The mattress is unusually bouncy, the ceiling is very thin and shakes when the person above moves around, and the train whistles. If you're a light sleeper, bring construction earplugs and ask for a room on the 3rd floor. If you're traveling with someone, get your own bed.
