Hampton Inn & Suites San Luis Obispo

My first planned layover in SBP (San Luis Obispo, CA) was in mid-February 2026. My flight crew and I got in around 6:30 p.m., and I was told most restaurants and food spots nearby closed around 7. So after a full day of flying, I couldn't get anything to eat that day or evening. I could probably have ordered Uber Eats, Door Dash, or GrubHub, but I don't like using delivery apps. One driver once falsely claimed to have dropped off my food and took off with it. I called, complained, and spoke to "management," who offered a refund only if I spent another $15. No thanks. They've lost my business and that of a lot of business people I know. Anyway, I was told Pismo Beach is there to explore on a future layover. The room was clean and open, and the AC was set to a comfortable temperature. After winding down from flying, I got a decent night's rest. The water temperature and pressure were good, and the temperature control worked accurately. I had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee and tea maker. My other complaint was not having a longer stay to make the visit better. I look forward to coming back, but next time I'd arrive by 3 p.m. or earlier and have a longer layover. A and G are in town for A's cousin's wedding. A isn't a hotel snob, but G is, and she loves this hotel. It's clean, check-in was quick and easy, and the bed is soft but comfortable. The pillows were nice too. A slept so soundly he woke up thinking he was home, which is unusual for him. There's an LG TV, fridge, microwave, and small keurig in the room. Breakfast was pretty great, with waffles hot from the iron, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, cereal, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, fruit, and lots of juice choices. It's been a pleasant stay.

This was my worst Hilton customer service experience since my family and I stayed at the Waldorf Las Vegas last year. The evening front desk staff were clueless, incompetent, and uncaring. I had booked two rooms for a family funeral and checked into both online the day before, but when we arrived in person, they said only one room was reserved under my name. After more than ten minutes at the desk, I showed my confirmation numbers and suddenly the problem was fixed. The credit card chip reader also wasn't working, though the agents seemed unaware. They tried my card twice through the reader and said it was declined. I tapped that same card and it worked just fine. I had to tell the agent I was a Diamond member and expected better for my loyalty to Hilton. What an embarrassment. Never again!

I've just checked out after a great stay. The service was great, and the staff really deserve recognition for the job they do. I enjoyed my time here.
