Residence Inn by Marriott San Luis Obispo

The king studio was nicely furnished with a kitchenette, and room service and other facilities were great. Breakfast, though, was a letdown. During our four days there, it was missing several items each morning, and replacing them took 25-30 minutes. Guests were lining up for basics like eggs and oats, while condiments were also missing and stayed that way. That didn’t match my previous good experience with Residence Inn. I hope they sort it out.

Kevin at the front desk was so kind and helpful. He had thoughtful suggestions for things to do nearby and stayed friendly and attentive at any hour. I also want to mention Chris, who was on breakfast duty. He checked on guests, kept everything stocked, and did it all with warmth and kindness. The studio suite was spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the room stayed quiet all night. Breakfast was good too. I don’t usually write hotel reviews, but the comfort, breakfast, and especially the excellent service made this visit memorable.

I’m a Titanium Elite member, and this weekend at the Residence Inn in San Luis Obispo has left me frustrated enough to consider trying Marriott’s competitors. I’ve only stayed at Marriott properties and use only Marriott credit cards, so this feels especially disappointing. For the first time, I was charged $15 per day for parking. I understand fees at properties in major cities like San Francisco, New York, or Los Angeles, but charging this at a place with hundreds of open spaces seems ridiculous. I’d never checked the website for amenities and policies before. The webpage says daily housekeeping is free. Over our three days, we didn’t get housekeeping, and we received towels only once. My conditioner ran out and was never replenished. Marriott seems to be nickel-and-diming its guests, and as a loyal member, I find it really frustrating. I’m an unhappy and frustrated Titanium Elite member.

We’re staying on the Residence side, since this location actually has two hotels in one. The rooms are nicely appointed, and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast has been very good too. It’s a newer hotel for the area. Just know that parking costs extra.
