Sunrise Hotel San Pedro

For a 2-star place, it was inviting, clean, and felt safe for the night we stayed. The building is older and could use a refresh in spots. Our room had no carpet and looked out at the Maritime Museum. The location is great, with good food nearby and a lovely harbor walk. About the sheet comments: I’ve never seen a hotel use a fitted sheet, just flat sheets tucked in well.

The owner or manager was very nice at check-in, and the room was clean enough for one night. We picked Portside Inn because it’s walkable to the Norwegian Cruise Port, about 5 to 10 minutes away. There was coffee for anyone who wanted some, and the harbor is in the photo taken from our room. It’s a very old hotel that needs an upgrade, though. There’s no breakfast or shuttle service, and no pool.

Never again. We chose this place for its closeness to the cruise terminal, but it was filthy and smelled of mold, mildew, and cigarettes. The old mattress was heavily stained, with no fitted sheet or mattress protector. I felt disgusting lying on it and couldn’t sleep. Someone else’s hair was all over the shower, bath, and sink, the floors were dirty, most outlets didn’t work, and the furniture was covered in crusty stains. Staff barely acknowledged us. I’d rather sleep on a park bench than stay here again. I’ve never paid so much for somewhere this filthy.

I’m booked here again in 2026 for another event, partly because it’s an easy walk to food and coffee, the harbor is right across the street, and the front desk guy was very nice. He happily brought extra towels and a blanket when I asked. The basics were there: a locking door, toilet, bed, A/C, and shower. The suite I reserved was a larger room, I think the couch folded out into a bed, and it had a large soaking tub. The little room with the toilet and shower was awful, though, and the hallway carpet was something to see, or smell. There were lots of easy fixes they seemed to miss. Why have an ironing board without an iron, or not check whether lights and outlets work? One of the two small fridges worked, and the microwave worked great. The bed setup was terrible: a flat sheet instead of a fitted one, then another flat sheet too small for the bed, and what seemed to be a bedspread that felt like a shower curtain. The curtains looked like they came off a pirate ship.
