I'll probably stay here again when work brings me to Sandersville. It's quiet, parking is easy, and the rates make sense for a town with so few choices. The mattresses are worn, though no worse than what I've had at an average hotel. There's a good gas station right next door, which helps since the hotel doesn't serve breakfast anymore. In a bigger town with more options, I'd pay a little extra for somewhere better.

I spent one night here and found dirt in the room corners. The tub had two big holes covered with patches, and there seemed to be mold around them. The TV turned on, but the picture was all snow, while the ice and vending machine were broken. There's no elevator, so I had to carry my bags up to the second floor. When I called the manager, he was rude and wouldn't offer anything for the trouble. He wasn't there in person, either.

I left town without seeing the Kaolin Festival, and the whole stay was awful. At check-in I was shown the non-smoking room I'd booked online, which looked clean. I offered $100 cash for the few hours I'd spent there overnight, but the owner refused it and insisted on charging my card. Earlier, after I asked to see the room before paying, I'd found there was no advertised continental breakfast, not even hot coffee. I warmed up some cold coffee and drank it black since there was no cream or sugar. I had arrived after midnight on Friday, fleeing a mandatory hurricane evacuation, hoping to pay for an extra night before my Saturday and Sunday reservation, Oct. 8 & 9, 2016. The desk said only a smoking room was available, and I took it because I was exhausted. While my card was being processed, another family reported dirty sheets. Then I saw a roach walk past my foot and stepped on it. The back door lock didn't work, the overflowing trash can was nearby, and a man was vomiting. The room had just an uncomfortable bed, side table, grimy phone with crude on the buttons, and TV. The sheets were soiled too, and I don't know why I stayed. After only three hours of sleep, the phone rang at 5:00 a.m. The receptionist said my card had failed and wanted me to bring my card and ID to the desk. I said I'd come down when I woke up. At 5:30 a.m. he called again, saying he'd come get my ID and card and that I could stay in the room. I was awake by then, went down, and tried to explain what had happened. The owner was incredibly rude and kept demanding my card for the $100 charge. I said I'd pay at check-in once I saw the room I had reserved for the weekend, because I wanted a clean room and to inspect it first.

The staff were nice, but I saw two roaches. They said they'd just sprayed. The back door was easy to pull open because, they said, its card reader was acting up. They told me they opened it in the morning and locked it at night, and that cameras plus my locked room door meant I was safe. What? Breakfast was a big box of cereal for everyone to share, and I didn't like that my sisters left the bag open, let alone strangers. Their website needs someone to maintain it too. The information is old and there are misspelled words.

The grounds looked nearly condemned when I arrived, with tall grass, overflowing trash, and a pool covered by a tarp with green stuff on it. Inside, the whole place was filthy and badly needed a deep clean. I told the owner the public restroom had no soap and the toilet looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. There was hair all over my room floor that wasn't mine. If you absolutely have to stay here, make it your last choice. It was the worst place I've stayed.
