The Westin Atlanta Perimeter North

We came to The Westin Perimeter Atlanta for my brother's wedding and left feeling stressed and shaken. Around 1:00 AM on the second day, eight of us got trapped in an elevator between floors for nearly an hour. The fire department got us out around 1:45 AM. No one from hotel management checked on us during or after it, and the staff seemed unconcerned about what was happening or what the fire department was doing. That lack of care was unacceptable and caused serious stress and mental trauma. The day before, elevators had taken 30 minutes or more, and people in our group sent pictures of one stuck. Guests were waiting a long time to reach their rooms or the lobby, and one man may have missed his flight. The frustration was widespread. We asked for at least one night's refund and got no response from the administration. Given what happened, I want a refund for the whole stay. This wasn't the Westin or Marriott experience anyone expects, and I would never recommend this property.

Before the incident, the elevator waits already seemed unusually long. Afterward, I saw other guest reviews mentioning similar problems, and the inspection certificates displayed in the elevator had 2024 expiration dates. During our stay, the elevator malfunctioned, dropped unexpectedly, and stopped between the 5th and 6th floors. We were trapped for about 33 minutes until Atlanta Fire Rescue opened the doors manually, then had to climb or jump out because the car was stuck between floors. The hotel comped the room night and gave us an apology letter, which I appreciate, but there was little follow-up considering how serious this was. The letter wasn't even addressed to us, so it felt generic and impersonal. I'm thankful it didn't turn out worse, but this affected our stay and our sense of safety. It wasn't a minor inconvenience.

We booked one night for our family of four, with children aged 6 and 9, and chose a room with two queen beds. Our reservation clearly listed all four of us, yet the hotel charged an extra person fee. At first, an employee told me my spouse had been counted as the extra person. Later, after my Chase Travel agent tried several times to reach a manager and couldn't, the hotel emailed saying the charge was for our two children because they weren't on the booking. That doesn't match the reservation, and the hotel's own policy says children under 12 aren't extra guests. We've stayed at countless hotels with our kids and never had this happen. The explanations kept changing, no manager was available, and the charge seemed unjustified. It was extremely frustrating. I'd avoid this property if you want clear pricing and competent service. Plenty of other hotels treat families fairly.

I work next door and stay here pretty often. The beds are really uncomfortable, and the place has gotten very dated. For at least the past 2 months, the elevator hasn't worked properly, so catching one can take up to 10 minutes. It got bad enough that they started sending people to the freight elevator. If you're loyal to Marriott like I am, there are better properties. I'd strongly suggest another hotel unless you absolutely have to stay here.
