WaterWalk Extended Stay by Wyndham Atlanta Perimeter

Alicee at the front desk was great and always available when we needed something. Our one-bedroom was clean, quiet, spacious, and laid out so we could spread out and relax. The location was great too. I only wish the kitchen had more pans, maybe casserole dishes for warming food in the oven, and potholders. That's a small issue, though. For the price, space, and location, it was excellent, and we'd definitely stay again.

Deveney, the hotel manager, made sure we felt welcome and comfortable throughout our stay. He was professional, attentive, and caring, and handled every detail with real dedication. He answered our questions promptly, kept a warm, positive attitude, and showed strong leadership around the hotel. It's rare to meet someone who takes that much pride in great service. He made the whole experience wonderful.

The room was far bigger and nicer than I expected for the cheapest option I could find. We had the two-bed setup for the three of us, and it felt like a big apartment to ourselves, with 3 TVs, one in each room, two full bathrooms, and a huge living room and kitchen with everything we needed. I could close the bedroom doors and finally sleep without hearing my daughters fight. We only wish we could've stayed longer. We were in town for a cheer competition, and after driving 16 hours through the night from Boston with 2 kids, I arrived exhausted and stressed because my cards were having issues due to my bank. The staff were patient and reassuring, helped sort it out, and got us into the room quickly. They also had a welcome banner for the Cheerleaders, free Gatorade and Waters, a balloon photo backdrop, and free goodie bags for every athlete. My daughters felt so special. It was a lovely surprise, and I hope we can come back for competition next year.

My workplace made the reservation, so I called about 2 hours before check-in, around 5pm, to confirm it was under my name. The employee confirmed the booking, my workplace, and the address. But when I arrived around 6:30pm, no one could find it. They said there'd been a shift change and the person I'd spoken to wasn't there. HR confirmed the reservation, and the front desk called the manager, who said they'd create a new one, not charge me, and contact my employer the next day to "smooth things out." They took my credit card and said they were holding $5, possibly to refund it at checkout the next day. I went to my room and fell asleep. Around 2am, two people started pounding on the door. I was alone, scared, shaking, and disoriented. They shouted that they were police and told me to open up, but the peephole was so dirty I couldn't see them. I asked to call the front desk to verify, and they got impatient, saying, "you can clearly see we're police," which made me more frightened. I could barely find the front desk number with my hands shaking. The desk confirmed they were police. When I opened the door, they were looking for "Shannon L." My name is "Sharon L." The hotel had charged another customer in another state with a similar name and Shannon had called police about a card charge or check-in notification for my room. How does that happen? I wasn't supposed to be charged, I gave them my card to put on file, my card had my name spelled correctly, and I had my driver's license ready at check-in, but they never asked for it. Then they gave the police my room number without checking whether they'd made a mistake. The police stormed in, pounded on the door, and interrogated me. I needed sleep before work, since I work in the operating room and was staying closer to the hospital because of inclement weather, but I couldn't sleep again with all that adrenaline. After they left, I called the desk for an explanation. There'd been another shift change, and the new employee said, sorry, I'm just walking into this. I understand it wasn't his fault, but every shift change came with no communication, and things kept escalating after I was told something different. I broke out in stress hives. At checkout, another shift change meant the new desk employee knew nothing, despite my asking the person the night before to pass it along and his saying he would. She was about to charge me for the room. I explained everything, but she couldn't find a reservation under my name and said they wouldn't check me out and would hold my card until they could sort it out with my employer. I'm still shaken, sleep deprived, and covered in hives. This was the worst and most inappropriate hotel management experience I've ever had.
