Extended Stay America Select Suites - Salt Lake City - Sandy

I'm a big fan of extended-stay hotels because of my food allergies and the convenience of making my own meals, so this place was a huge disappointment. The room had no working fridge, and I lost all my food. I told the front desk woman, who wrote it on a sticky note but never followed up or said anything when I explained what I'd lost. Nothing in the room worked, and there wasn't even lukewarm water, let alone hot water. I also had to order my own cleaning supplies. There was no hairdryer or coffee maker. Calls from the room cost $1 each, even if they didn't connect, fresh towels were $1.75, and taking out the trash meant bringing it to the dumpster out back. This is the dirtiest place. I'm very disappointed in this location. Stay at your own risk.

The whole place has an overpowering smell of stale cigarette smoke and wet dog as soon as you enter. I stayed for a week while waiting to move into my apartment, and it was miserable. Whenever I asked for basics like toilet paper or clean towels, the front desk staff were cold and unwelcoming, as if I were a burden. Many guests, and even some staff, seem to live there full-time, which makes the atmosphere feel uncomfortable and unprofessional. For that price I expected a clean room and basic courtesy, and got neither. Save your money and stay somewhere else in Sandy.

My stay at Extended Stay America in Sandy, Utah felt welcoming and home-like. Angela at the front desk was warm, knowledgeable, and willing to help with whatever I needed. She got me what I asked for the first time. Manager Melissa was empathetic about my situation and understanding when I needed management involved. She stepped in right away and fixed the problems I was having without hesitation. My expectations were met and then some. The check-in ID rule caused an unnecessary delay because it wasn't disclosed on the website, in the booking, or in the confirmation. I understand it's your policy, but it should be stated clearly so people can be ready. Many of us are far from home and can't just go back to get an ID. Requiring an ID wasn't the issue, the lack of notice was. We travel often and haven't run into this requirement at other hotels. I also called to raise my concerns and was told upper management would call within 5-7 days. Two weeks later, I'm still waiting. After hearing that you hoped we'd give you another chance, I don't think that's likely. Maybe you thought I'd forget and move on, but the lack of a response makes it seem like my concerns didn't matter. The room itself was disgusting. There was hair on the bathroom floor and in the drain, residue splashed around the sink, and food stains on the chair and floor. The floor was so filthy we couldn't walk around without shoes. When I tried to report it, nobody was at the front desk because the attendant had stepped away. When we came back later, the desk was closed. If there'd been another hotel available, we'd have left immediately. This was unacceptable, and I won't stay here again. Management needs to address the cleaning and lack of accountability. It's frustrating to feel that the company doesn't value its customers.
