Waterside Inn on the Beach

The grounds were lovely, with lots of greenery that made our space feel tucked away. We were near the pool but couldn’t see anyone from our cottage, and the beach was a short walk. Our family of four had a great time riding bikes around the island, and the bike paths were awesome. The kids also enjoyed the shell-washing station, and shelling was great. We stayed in Raspberry Cottage for a few days and loved the updated rooms, pleasant colors, and old Florida charm. It isn’t a condo or a beach resort, and it hasn’t lost its character. The office staff were so pleasant; we had no issues, but I’m sure they’d have dealt with anything quickly. We’d stayed at Pineapple Lodge twice before and chose a cottage this year. It seemed to be under new management since our visit several years ago, and we weren’t disappointed. I’m looking forward to coming back.

It’s been a year and a half since the hurricane, and this was my first visit back. I’d hoped Waterside Inn had been damaged but could be repaired and reopened. I was heartbroken to see it completely gone. It was my favorite place to stay on Sanibel, with a great location, spacious comfortable rooms at a good price, and wonderful staff. I truly hope they can rebuild. I’ll be among their first guests.

Carol, the General Manager, made my stay especially nice. She was friendly, had great recommendations, and went out of her way to help us enjoy our time. When bugs were biting us badly, she even offered bug spray. I had lots of lovely conversations with her. The Cottage was clean and spacious, just steps from the beach. For a quiet, laid-back beach resort, this is the spot. I’ve lived in the area and been visiting the island for over 15 years, and this was easily my favorite place to stay.

We had a phenomenal time and will definitely be back. The Cottages are fantastic. We stayed in the blueberry Cottage and loved the pool and beach. Carol and her staff went above and beyond, and we’re so grateful. There are some parking and extra visitor rules, so ask about them ahead of time and you’ll know what to expect.
