La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Santa Fe

The breakfast attendant was so attentive. The food, including the waffle, coffee, and other breakfast items, was good, and she kept everything stocked and VERY CLEAN. Don’t forget to leave her a tip in the jar. Most of the staff helped make our weeklong stay better than it could’ve been, especially with our car trouble and all the other things we ran into. The manager went above and beyond to help us with an unfortunate situation in Santa Fe.

For $78 a night with breakfast included, I was pretty happy with the stay. The place is worn in spots but clean, the location is great, and the staff were warm, welcoming, and helpful. Breakfast was the usual sort of fare for this type of place. I’d call it a motel rather than a hotel, but the price is hard to beat.

We spent Christmas in Santa Fe at this “hotel,” which is really a motel, and I won’t be back. We arrived thinking our room came with a microwave and mini-fridge, then were told we’d booked without them. In the same breath, they said they were moving us to a room that had both, which was good but a strange exchange. The room was poor. The pillows were lumpy, the linens stained, there were unfamiliar hairs in the shower, and the toilet ran unless you jiggled the lever after every flush. The shampoo and conditioner felt like thickened water. They didn’t clean or condition my hair, just spread the oils around. The floors were filthy, breakfast mediocre, and there was a literal, poorly patched bullet hole in the door. The TV barely worked. We couldn’t connect devices to the “chromecast” or use streaming, and the cable guide wouldn’t take us to channels. We told the front desk after the first night, and they said they’d send someone, but no one came. Every night, after parking on the far side of the building because parking was abysmal and hauling our things up to the third floor, our key cards failed. We had to go back down and get them reactivated. Every night. Getting help at the desk was a whole other problem. We waited 10-20 minutes each time. Sometimes no one was in the building; other times they were in the back on their phone, came out after several minutes because their DoorDash had arrived, or spent minutes flirting with another customer and getting their number before helping us. I’d never stay here again. If you’re reading this, I’d strongly suggest finding somewhere else.

Someone broke into a room while we were staying here and smashed the window next to us. Then I noticed our room’s secondary lock had been busted, so someone may have broken in there before too. We asked to switch rooms, and they were willing to accommodate us, but before moving I saw several Google reviews from the past few months about bed bugs at this la quinta. I also realized the bathroom was kind of gross and the shower drained extremely slowly. We left and stayed somewhere else. The whole thing was horrifying and a waste of money. Don’t come here.
